Mammography Screening : One of the Greatest Controversies in HealthCare

The most effective way to decrease women’s risk of becoming a breast cancer patient is to avoid attending screening says Peter Gøtzsche

Peter Gøtzsche discusses his disputes with the Cochrane Breast Cancer Group

” The most effective way to decrease women’s risk of becoming a breast cancer patient is to avoid attending screening. Mammography screening is one of the greatest controversies in healthcare, and the extent to which some scientists have sacrificed sound scientific principles in order to arrive at politically acceptable results in their research is extraordinary. In contrast, neutral observers increasingly find that the benefit has been much oversold and that the harms are much greater than previously believed. ”

Dietary Supplements: is the Vitamins Cult one of the Biggest Scam of the Century?

Why do we think that we need supplements?

Is the vitamins cult one of the biggest scam of the century?

Nutrition experts contend that all we need is what’s typically found in a routine diet. Industry representatives, backed by a fascinating history, argue that foods don’t contain enough, and we need supplements. Fortunately, many excellent studies have now resolved the issue.

The vitamin industry had a 2.8 billion dollars increase in the United States in 2010 while the dietary supplements market reached 11 billion euros in Europe in 2011.

Dr Paul Offit, Chief of Infectious Diseases at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, published a paper that has shaken the reputation benefits of vitamin C… read The Vitamin Myth: Why We Think We Need Supplements, The Atlantic, 19 July 2013.

BPA is a Reproductive Health Hazard: listen to Desi Doyen from Green News Report

BPA affects male sex hormones? Weak concentrations of bisphenol A are sufficient to produce a negative reaction on the human testicle

After explaining what is BPA and where is it used, and reviewing what does the latest science says in two videos by Risk Bites, let’s see how BPA affects male sex hormones…

In a lab test, BPA was shown to a have a surprising negative impact on mens’ testicles, even if they weren’t the one who consumed the BPA.
Now, it’s being labeled a reproductive health hazard. Full study report on PlosOne DOI: 10.1371/journal.pone.0051579 Dec 2012.

Agriculture Job is Top 1 Most Likely to Make You Sick

Agriculture, pesticides exposure, and health issues

farmer image
In 1993, scientists from the National Cancer Institute, the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency began a study known as the Agricultural Health Study (AHS)

Although farmers tend to have lower death rates due to heart disease and cancers of the lung, esophagus, bladder, and colon—likely thanks to lower smoking rates and a physically active lifestyle—they have an exceptionally high risk of other conditions, according to the National Cancer Institute.

Among them: leukemia, non-Hodgkin lymphoma, multiple myeloma, soft tissue sarcoma, and cancers of the skin, lip, stomach, brain, and prostate.

Why? Farmers are exposed to a wide range of hazardous chemicals including pesticides, engine exhaust, fertilizers, fungicide, and fuels, as well as animal viruses and dust. ”

Epigenetic Regulation of Estrogen signaling in Breast Cancer

Estrogen prolonged exposure, combined with high levels of hormone increases the risk of breast cancer by constitutively activating the transcription of genes predominantly implicated in metabolism and cell cycle regulation

Abstract
NCBI Logo
The NCBI advances science and health by providing access to biomedical and genomic information.

Estrogen signaling is mediated by ERα and ERβ in hormone dependent, breast cancer (BC). Over the last decade the implication of epigenetic pathways in BC tumorigenesis has emerged: cancer-related epigenetic modifications are implicated in both gene expression regulation, and chromosomal instability. In this review, the epigenetic-mediated estrogen signaling, controlling both ER level and ER-targeted gene expression in BC, are discussed: (1) ER silencing is frequently observed in BC and is often associated with epigenetic regulations while chemical epigenetic modulators restore ER expression and increase response to treatment;(2) ER-targeted gene expression is tightly regulated by co-recruitment of ER and both coactivators/corepressors including HATs, HDACs, HMTs, Dnmts and Polycomb proteins.

The Link between DES Exposure and MTF Transsexuality

DES is probably the unacknowledged cause of most cases of MTF transsexuality among those born prior to the mid-1970s. Does Dr. Keith Ablow knows?

What if DES was the unacknowledged cause of most cases of MTF transsexuality among those born prior to the mid-1970s…

Brynn Tannehill is parent, writer, scientist, and advocate for trans inclusion in the military.

In January 2014, Dr. Keith Ablow, psychiatrist and member of the Fox News Medical A-Team, dismissed any biological origins of gender dysphoria, stating he was “Not convinced’ being TransGender exists“…

Few day later, Brynn Tannehill, Director of Advocacy, SPART*A, published a paper with no less than 15 studies showing a biological origin of gender dysphoria… One of them is a mention about DES:
In this study, more than 150 individuals with confirmed or suspected prenatal diethylstilbestrol (DES) exposure reported moderate to severe feelings of gender dysphoria across the lifespan.”

U.S. Drug Overdoses 1999-2010 Chart

The rate of reported overdoses the U.S. more than doubled between 1999 and 2010, about half of those additional deaths are in the pharmaceuticals category…

According to the latest available data from the Centers for Disease Control, drug overdoses were responsible for 38,329 deaths in 2010, 30,006 of which were unintentional. That’s a rate of 105 every day, and that number doesn’t take into account the 6,748 people treated every day for the misuse or abuse of drugs. In comparison, traffic accidents were responsible for 33,687 deaths in 2010. Firearms killed 31,672 people, and 26,852 died as a result of falling. ”
