Will tomorrow’s Doctors gain hands-on Experience and treat Patients with Dignity?

Doctors setting bad example to medical students

The teaching practices of senior doctors are contributing to a decline in patient care, according to new research. The findings of Cardiff University and the University of Dundee suggest that medical students are being pushed to do things they are uncomfortable with – but they feel unable to challenge their superiors when in this position. Surveys and interviews with hundreds of British medical students show that some senior doctors are setting a far from good example.

Cut Poison Burn Official Trailer

The Pharma Business of Cancer Treatment

Controversial, eye opening, and sometimes heartbreaking documentary puts the business of cancer treatment under the microscope. A MUST SEE, it will change your life.

  • Video by Nehststudios, Published on 10 May 2011
  • Cut Poison Burn is a searing film that illuminates the grim truth about America’s so-called War on Cancer. This thought-provoking documentary takes on the forces that have conspired to thwart meaningful advances in cancer research and treatment over the past century. These forces include the federal government (in its effort to label and persecute innovators as quacks), drug companies eager to suppress alternative treatments and powerful industry organizations that place profit over human lives. The story centers on the Navarros, a family struggling to keep their young son alive. The war between the Navarro Family and the FDA is perhaps this country’s greatest evidence as to why there should be medical freedom. As the personal meets the political, we see how the FDA holds a vise-like grip on treatment options. Heart-wrenching and informative, the film ultimately expresses hope that we can create a new paradigm of prevention, medical freedom and acceptance of highly-tailored therapies to usher in a more enlightened era. Over 12 years, 150 hours of footage and interviews with top oncologists, researchers, policy-makers, homeopaths and patients carry the story and reveal that we are on the brink of disaster and in desperate need of reform. “

International Clinical Trials Day

International Clinical Trials Day is celebrated around the world on or near the 20 May each year, to commemorate the day that James Lind started his famous trial on the deadly disease scurvy. Bad Science by Ben Goldacre lifts the lid on quack doctors, flaky statistics, evil pharma and more

How the scientific method works, and what to look for when presented with so-called “evidence”

Bad Science by @bengoldacre lifts the lid on quack doctors, flaky statistics, evil pharma and more
Bad Science Book by Ben Goldacre

How do we know if a treatment works, or if something causes cancer? Can the claims of homeopaths ever be as true – or as interesting as the improbable research into the placebo effect? Who created the MMR hoax? Do journalists understand science? Why do we seek scientific explanations for social, personal and political problems? Are alternative therapists and the pharmaceutical companies really so different, or do they just use the same old tricks to sell different types of pill? We are obsessed with our health. And yet – from the media’s ‘world-expert microbiologist’ with a mail-order PhD in his garden shed laboratory, via multiple health scares and miracle cures, to the million pound trial that Durham Council now denies ever existed – we are constantly bombarded with inaccurate, contradictory and sometimes even misleading information. Until now. Ben Goldacre masterfully dismantles the dodgy science behind some of the great drug trials, court cases and missed opportunities of our time, but he also goes further: out of the bulls—, he shows us the fascinating story of how we know what we know, and gives us the tools to uncover bad science for ourselves.

Ben Goldacre is Britain’s finest writer on the science behind medicine, and Bad Science is the UK Sunday Times top ten bestseller
